Keep Off Slugs
...this hollyhock is going to flower. It's ours, no slurping. I know that you slugs are passionate about hollyhocks.
Today Mr H brought me a stunned goldfinch, he was holding him so gently in his hand. We think it either flew into the window and was stunned or, it had been got by a neighbourhood hood of a cat. We saw a smoky coloured suspect stalking through the bushes.
We put him in a little open box with some tissue paper in the bottom, in our outhouse, (which has an open topped door for escaping), and left him to rest. A wee while later, he was panting but perched on the edge of the box. Later still, he was perched on the lawn mower, still panting and, hurrah, a wee while later still, he had flown away. Mr H and I are so pleased.
We had a wet walk earlier on today. One of the upsides of the rain, unashamed schmalz. It took me ages to remember this song!
