Metallic Blue Hover Fly

New Zealand native Helophilus hochstetteri. Easily mistaken for a bluebottle, which is a shame. The yellow scutellum at its waist makes it identifiable. It’s a flower fly, feeding on nectar and pollen. This is the first one I’ve seen this season.
