Love is like a butterfly

Just a wee blink of sun was all it needed to tempt the butterflies out today. This beauty is a Small Pearl-bordered Fritillary (latin name: Boloria selene). It is resting on some flowering heather. We were in the Muir of Dinnet National Nature Reserve today looking at the renewed boardwalk over an area of bog and looking at the bog plants. On our way out to the boardwalk, we spotted this fritillary sunning itself. So, rather than the bog plants I was expecting to blip about, I went with posting about this butterfly as we've seen so few in this cold, wet excuse for a summer!
