At the end of our street - Mono Monday 111
Walking Main Street, which is true to its name and runs approximately east-west for the length of our village, is always a delight. A lot of greetings and meetings so it's not something to be embarked upon if you're in a hurry.
This morning I did a tour of the village delivering notes to the elderly 'students' who are 'taught' to use the iPad by a great team of teenage teachers. The note is to remind them that the sessions begin again this week after a winter break.
At the end of Main Street, not far from the western boundary of the village, I came upon one of two magnificent 17th Century houses, The Grange. This was built in 1672 according to a date stone above the central door (which you might be able to see if viewed 'in large'). Another fascinating feature which you might be able to see sticking out from the top of the large chimney stack at the right are two gargoyles which seem to have no function.
The other 17thC building, also on Main Street, possibly a blip on another day, was built in 1653 and is perhaps even more magnificent and has some interesting history - Cromwell, Marston Moor and all that.
PS. Should have said thank you to trisharooni for hosting.
