Kuph

Another in the family tree series; this time an advert for a circus in the Netherlands where my family were perforrming in 1895 with a cycling bear called Kuph - they started off with children then I assume as more novelty acts introduced children my 3rd great grandfather went one better and introduced a bear to his act - but I love this advert so much I just had to share. I've now been able to follow their career through the newspapers from 1885 - 1905.

Of course today I do not believe that there is a place for exotic animals in circuses but back in the Victorian era times were very much different.
