Changing roles

It was farewell today to the 94 year old matriarch of the not-quite-immediate family. My dad used to say he always liked a funeral tea, and this would have gone down well in his books, though it was hard retrieving any of the cakes before the hungry nephews did.

Then it was on to visit the newly-appointed elder stateswoman of the family. She was torn between an audience with me or a residents' meeting. We agreed on a compromise and I was graciously unoffended.
