At the Hat Factory
K and I thought our adventure would simply be trying a new restaurant at the airport in the next town, and it was indeed fun to sit there with our tasty lunch and watch the small planes come and go. But the real fun came on our way back to the highway when we discovered the Head'n Home Handmade Hat Headquarters right across the street. "Hats! Let's go!" she said, as the car seemed to turn of its own volition into the parking lot. An amazing line of mostly leather hats in a variety of styles from steampunk to cowboy, and all of them made on site. We were treated to a tour of the entire establishment, meeting the folks who worked upstairs and watching as complicated shapes were stitched together and decorated at the various work stations. The seamstress in the photo is stitching a leather brim to the crown. "Everyone here works on every hat," our guide said. K ended up with a stylin' leather tophat to complement the shimmering grey silk velvet tunic she purchased earlier. Me? nope. I had my fun just seeing them put these things together.
