Oculus memoriae
Two eyes, the Eye of Remembering, Oculus memoriae and the Eye of Forgetting, Oculus oblivionis, flank the entrance to Munich's Nordbad, a public indoor swimming pool. The two square blocks of grey marble, 1.60 meters wide and 2,20 meters long, are modeled after the left and right eye of Michelangelo's David. The installations are the work of Anne and Patrick Poirier.
And what is their meaning? The Nordbad, an example of neoclassical architecture, was built under the Nazi regime; the eyes are a reminder not to forget the past. On the other side of the street in front of the city archives is the Eye of Hisory, Oculus historiae.
Another shot with the Nordbad in the extras.
