Tightening it, then removing it, tightening the bottom bracket and re-attaching the crank tightly didn't completely remove the wee creak but did reduce it, which will do for now. Unlike a tyre-change a crank-tightening can easily be performed in a half-hour minimal-lunch whilst still leaving time to pop to shops to buy soothing foodstuffs with which to muffle the exasperated mutterings of planning.
