Weakness
An uneventful Friday - so far - it's only 17:00!
Across the street from the yoga "space" I suffer in every Friday morning is an award winning baker - Stuarts of Buckhaven. One of those wee local, family businesses which the supermarkets would like to obliterate.
All the cash from the supermarkets goes down the M6 and then the profit goes off to Luxembourg, Bermuda or the Cayman Islands. Profits are good because they pay staff so badly they need tax credits to get by. Nice wee subsidy from us taxpayers.
I've no idea how the Stuarts rate as employers, but chances are all their revenue (profit or otherwise) will stay in the local economy. Maybe not. Maybe it is all hoovered up by their villas in Tenerife.
Well all this political economy stuff is pointless if the product is no good. So, in the interests of researching my theory, today I bought two of their fruit pies. One apple and one rhubarb.
I'll be back (to quote Arnie).
