a breath of fresh air

About a year or so ago I was involved in setting up a ‘singing for breathing’ group at the cardio-pulmonary gym I attend.  The aim is to help people with various lung disorders (COPD, asthma and so on) to improve their breathing through singing.  The idea is not new - the Royal Brompton Hospital has been in the forefront of this sort of activity in the UK for some years now - but it is extremely successful.

When our group started some people could not exhale for more than a few seconds - let alone sing out loud.  Not only has their breathing improved - their self confidence has had a real boost as well.  So much so that tonight they took part in a choral festival competing against well established (and healthy) choirs.

They did extremely well - and now the performance genie is well and truly out of the bottle.  The Royal Albert Hall next?

Apologies for the lack of comments lately.  Will catch up shortly.
