But, then again . . . . .

Cat's Cradle.

I took a trip to Newtongrange Mining Museum with Mrs TD; surprisingly, she wanted - even expected to go for the annual interclub photography competition. Disappointingly, nearly half of the usual clubs were conspicuous by their absence – as were most of the members of the remaining clubs. Allegedly, we came second by a small margin, though I remain unconvinced of that assessment.

After a light lunch in the café there, accompanied by coffee made with full cream milk – not recommended – we took a tour of the souvenir shop. Whereas, thirty years ago they sold expensive, but good, models of mining subjects made out of coal; they now sell expensive (and also cheap) plastic replicas. They also sell this priceless (as in it had no price label) cat’s cradle game, something I used to play as a child, neatly packaged in a box faded from long exposure to the sun while on display. Amazon sell various versions of it ranging in price from  eighty pence to nine pounds. The instruction books available are even more expensive. I find it a curious marketing concept – a five foot length of knotted string – that would have William Heath Robinson turning in his grave.

The extra is of the advertisement for tonight’s film created by one of our helpers.
