One of our Funds
15th March 2016:
Even though we do loads of pumps, farming, seedlings and other big things, sometimes its the smaller initiatives that become more real and personal.
This is a project, started by a young brother, Ephram, now a qualified physiotherapist. He began by visiting old people in their homes and sometimes just sitting and talking. Mary went with him on a few occasions and soon realised that with a little financial help this could become something great and really meaningful.
This Gogo Fund as we now call it has been going for five years now and makes a huge personal difference to the people we assist.
The picture shows Gogo Mfune, a widow, who had four sons, two dead from the unmentionable AIDS, one with a serious alcohol addiction, living with her and another married close by. As for many women like her she has contacted the virus, from her husband and lives by ARV's and is always on the verge of starvation. Life is unimaginably difficult.
The St John of God brothers deliver this fund with the greatest care and love imaginable and (Men of God, like their founder is a most appropriate term.
Also in the picture are Mart and new girl, Cliona, just in from Cork, Ireland, last night.
She is volunteering with us until August, as part of her degree course in International Development. She certainly has a lot to consider tonight after her day with Mary, Br Isaac and Br Ephram.
