Boi-Bumbá

What a show we saw today in Parintins, Brazil!  Every year, for three days in June, the city puts on a huge folklore festival called Boi-Bumbá.  There are two teams -- Red and Blue -- which compete with each other to win a competition for the best interpretation of a local folk tale. 

We were treated to a small version of the real Boi-Bumbá this afternoon -- a one hour show instead of three days.  The music was loud, there was a lot of joyous dancing and singing, and the most amazing costumes and floats.  The whole experience is a riot of colour, movement, sound, and music.  We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves!
