Angkor Wat
So we made it to the Temples of Angkor and we were impressed. They are part of the huge temple complex of the Kmer Empire which sits close by Siem Reap and should be on any discerning travellers itinerary at some point.
We started at Angkor Thom in the early morning and went to Angkor Wat in the quieter afternoon. The Temple of Bayon, with its 216 enormous coldly smiling faces of a Buddha like divinity, was an early highlight, but it was impossible not to be impressed by the beautiful enormity of Angkor Wat, the worlds largest religious building. The guide books recommend at least three days for visiting this area and we were glad that this is what we had planned. There are interesting things to see around every corner, and the pace of visiting has to be slow because of the 30º - 40º heat and the many other visitors - the majority being Chinese we felt.
A busy day, and more of the same planned for tomorrow.
