Bus Challenge No 83!!

A glorious sunny Spring day so time to jump on a bus to Bath, to pick up a second bus heading south into Somerset, to the village of Beckington, 3 miles north of the market town of Frome.

“Beckington is a village steeped in history. It is mentioned in the Doomsday Book. Pre-industrial revolution it became a place of some importance as a result of the wool trade and a place of wealth. Evidence of the clothiers' importance can be seen by the clothiers' marks in the church and by the many large houses in the village main street. Along the side streets, principally Goose Street (main photo) and Church Street are old stone built workers' and artisans' cottages.” www.beckington.org.uk

As well as following a 2 mile Heritage Trail around the village, I was on a mission to track down a house that was for sale, for a friend who is relocating from Cumbria down to Somerset. It’s quite fun being given quarter of a million pounds to spend when it’s not your own money! Jasmine Cottage, Goose Street, what a lovely address!! (extra photo 1)

The Heritage Trail continued on to the Norman church of St George (extra photo 2), past Beckington Castle, a 16th century mansion house (extra photo 3 – shame about the cars!), ending at the 16th century Woolpack Inn, just in time for lunch! Well, it would have been rude not to have gone in!!
