Reap The Wild Wind

Mum and I spent a wonderful morning at the Solent Air Museum in Southampton. Highlights included getting to sit in the cockpit of a Harrier Jumpjet, visiting the flight deck of a Sandringham flying boat and getting up close and personal with a magnificent Spitfire. Chocks away!

Trivia - the word "airport" originated in Southampton as the first commercial aircraft flew from the port of Southampton so they invented the word "airport" from the model word "seaport."

In the afternoon we visited the Sea City Museum for an exhibition about the Titanic which sailed from Southampton.

By the way, if you think the Sandringham looks familiar, that is probably because she is the sister plane to the Solent Mark III which appeared in Raiders Of The Lost Ark.
