La Mancha

For a minute this morning I thought I was heading out into the 'windswept and battered' plateau-land of Castilla-La Mancha in Spain: the flat radiant light, the low crouched hills, the colours pared back by drought and gale, and everywhere the tall, towering heads of the agave cactus.

But I was at the roundabout outside Sansburys in Folkestone.
