Celebrating!
It was another early morning after a broken night of sleep. Breakfast was a buffet from the neighbouring restaurant, nice enough btu with the unusual addition of a machine serving non-alcoholic homebrewed beer! Maybe it's a Finnish thing. Check in and security were dead so we were straight through with no problems.
We made our way to a cafe for a much needed caffiene hit. I was half way through my coffee before I woke up enough to realise it was really burnt and bitter, the half cup obviously did the job though. By 10:30 we were finally on our last flight to Ivalo via Kittila. Collect our bags, meet our taxi driver then a half hour drive through the snowy wilderness to Moutkan Maja Wilderness Lodge.
We had a warm welcome and were offered some lunch before we took our luggage to our room. Information had been mislaid so it was just a salad for me but they assured me they'd be able to cater for me at other meals. Our room was beautiful. I'd upgarded us to a cabin by the river as it had it's own sauna and a (lot) more space. It was lovely and the snowy views were magical, there were even bunny tracks on our veranda!
Our welcome pack included a couple of little bottles of fizz so what better way to chill them than shoved in a snow drift just outside the door! In the afternoon we settled in and relaxed before dinner. On the way back to our lodge at dusk, G heard a noise near by, there were four reindeer foraging at the edge of the grounds, too dark for photographs but we watched them for a while. We then "suited up" and went for a walk along one of the illuminated ski trails. After so long sat on aeroplanes it was nice to stretch the legs.
