A bygone era

This is a view from the back of The Herald building -  a complex of apartments in Glasgow's city centre. These flats are very nice and bright and airy.

Maybe the name gives away the original use of the building?

This was the home of Glasgow's iconic Herald daily newspaper and Evening Times evening daily. At one point this street was the Fleet Street of Glasgow. Journalists and office workers shared space in the black area to the right, whilst the large white building to the left was an industrial area where giant printing presses ran daily (I remember watching big rolls of paper being delivered off giant trailers.)

All gone now. The Herald runs from smaller offices and the staff have been more than halved. Oh and the journalism is truly awful - the ones that are left are either sub-standard or have too much to do.

Progress?
