The most crooked church in Britain.
We visited Hay-on-Wye (books, books, books) this morning then went on 2 mile circular walk along the River Wye and former railway line. The walk was lovely made all the more enjoyable when the sun came out. We then drove down the winding, narrow road through the Ewyas valley to visit St Martin's church in Cwmyoy. Spectacular mountains, grazing sheep, woolly cattle and a gurgling river put us right in the depths of the Wales experience. It was wonderful.
The church stands on a steep hillside on the east side of the valley and subject to slippage. The church chancel has been described as a remarkable example of a "weeping chancel", where the nave represents Christ's body and the deflected chancel his head fallen sideways in death (Wiki).
