Warp and Weft

This tapestry graces one wall of the cafe at the entrance to the Dovecot Tapestry Studios which his Lordship and I visited this morning to look at the exhibition of 100 years of weaving, which is running at the moment.

Some of the huge old tapestries were so fine and intricate that they must have taken years of work to complete. Photos were not allowed.

The studios are in what used to be Infirmary Street Baths, a Victorian swimming pool, built by the Victorians to combat cholera, but in which, cholera free and in my prime, I have spent many a happy hour of immersion with particular dedication to mastering the art of breathing in the crawl stroke while another Victorian swimming pool, my local, Warrender, was au dehors de service.

With lots of building problems, it was finally closed in 1995. It was then converted by Malcom Fraser architects into the home of the Dovecot studios and opened in 2009.

While I write this blog, I'm eyeing the sky which is darkening by the minute, threatening rain, and wondering which is the least welcome option: getting wet by cycling or getting wet by walking, when I visit my friend omt's this afternoon.

I see the rain is now falling, I think a walk with an umbrella is the way to go.
