Ferry to the South Island
I helped Amy walk some dogs (her side job) around Oriental Bay, said goodbye and then had some sushi for lunch and walked through town back to my van. I drove to the ferry terminal and waited patiently to board ready for the 5pm crossing. I was pretty tired but you're not allowed to stay in your vehicle. I never lost mobile signal (including internet) during the whole journey, amazingly. I had some dinner and stood up on deck looking at the gorgeous scenery and sunset.
It was dark by the time we arrived in Picton so I drove an hour or so to a free campsite (like a carpark with a toilet).
