Bill tunes the choir
Today was the second of three advance rehearsals for the Festival Combined Choir, comprising over 100 singers from different choirs that will be performing in our choir festival at the end of August. The Combined Choir will give the finale performance of the weekend and Bill has chosen three rather different composers for us to show how clever we all are - Mozart, Vaughan Williams and Borodin.
I took quite a few discreet shots (didn't want to distract him - showed him later though) and there were some interesting energetic ones, but this was the pick of them.
We have these rehearsals in different locations so that choristers have a chance to get to at least one of them. The first was in Blackheath and the third will be in Sydney in a few weeks. Today we all went to Springwood Civic Centre, which is, in my opinion, a very good public hall and theatre and a fine example of its era. It's not perfect, but it it's much better designed and equipped than most of the other halls in the mountains. Nevertheless, Council plans to demolish and replace it at huge expense. I haven't actually seen the plans for the new complex, but I understand not everybody is impressed...
SO
Since I might not have another chance, I took the opportunity for a few shots that will become part of the history of the place (in my collection, anyway). Amongst them are:
Winnie enjoying herself during the tea break.
I also ducked into the dressing rooms for a couple of quick shots and found these.
In theatrical circles, it is widely considered to be Bad Luck to put shoes on the make-up table. I don't know how long these (which are, incidentally, very much bloke sized) had been there, but this bit of theatrical negligence may be the cause of the demolition decision. Who can say?
