Grande-Place/ Grotemarkt
In the morning I took a walk in the forest surrounding the camping place. It was a gorgeous place. And the vegetation was very lush. There were growing a few species that we have in Finland, but in general the forest looked totally different from what we have here. When I had done walking we took a metro to the Centraal station and from there a train to Bruxelles.
Our hostel was located less than half a kilometre from the market square Grande Place. The hostel was in a charming old house. The owner seemed to live in a room alongside a narrow staircase in the house with her cat. When we had checked in to the hostel we were hungry so we had some pommes frites with mayonnayise. Then we had a look at the Grande Place and Manneken Pis and had a beer at a cozy brasserie's beer garden.
Grande-Place is said to be the most beautiful market square in the world. Haven't seen enough market squares to judge about that but it's definitely the most impressive one I've seen. Even though it looks great also in pictures you have to see it for yourself. It's just gorgeous. The building with the tall tower is Hotel de Ville (Brussels town hall).
Later my wife rested in the hostel and I followed a "comic strip walk" route from a map. There are around 30 houses which have a large painting from Belgian comic strips on the wall.
A few more photos in Picasa (more coming up shortly)
