The smallest cathedral ...
Small, yes, but very lovely - Butterfield's interior, with its polychromatic tiles and perfect acoustic for our small group to make our music in. Today we were joined by our friend Jonathan Cohen, so we had an organ accompaniment as well as a fascinatingly chromatic motet by Caldara. This last fairly exercised the old diaphragm - great big long lines of music with nowhere to breathe.
By 10pm we were all yawning over the log fire in the library. We may be carrying on the traditions of our youth , but the stamina ...alas.
