Highly Unsprung

Belle o' the Broch!

Business in the Broch today. Passed by the Dalyrimple Hall and cafe and as usual it was calling me to make the leap over the threshold. But alas, there was no time to answer the sirens call. And what is that call? Knowing that my maternal Grandma, Christina May Stopper nee Drake, has roots there. Her mother, my great grandma, Christina Ann Drake, a tailoress, married her beau, James Mason May, a tailor, in that very cafe, on 4th June 1920.

Her mother, my great, great Grandma, Christina Anne Gerrard Drake nee Hendry, married Stephen Drake a cabinet maker and as for Christina herself? Why she was only known as the Belle of the Broch! The beautiful belle sadly wouldn't have been able to see her daughter married as she died two years before in 1918. Her husband's father, James Drake, my great, great, great Grandfather, was a coastguard and naval man, and so it goes on, back and back in time, roots and branches, evermore, into farming and the land itself.

Just one of many family lines all overflowing with lifetimes of tales and a brimful of stories.
