First Cut

Yes, a few days without rain, and the grass is dry enough to cut.
It’s certainly long enough after a relatively mild winter which has seen our grass at least, continue to grow.  So today was the first cut of the season, and in fact probably for five months since early November.
We have our grass treated regularly — treatment that continues through the winter, so you can imagine just how long it had become.
Thankfully our mower sprang into life first time, but even at its highest setting the winter growth of the lawn, meant the grass was too much for the mower. But at least, the first trim took the top off, and while it was left strewn on the lawn, at least the first cut was successful.  It needed another two runs over before I had got to anything resembling a lawn.
And hand on heart, I would not say that we are there yet. I can see another session in a few days, weather permitting, and another treatment is due in about ten days.
That, undoubtedly will signal the start of the summer routine of weekly grass cutting.  At one place we lived our neighbour put me to shame by religiously cutting his grass every day.  Mind you, he had a fabulous garden and the plushness of his lawn thoroughly put mine to shame.

Trouble is my resolve to do things in the garden to a set pattern is a bit like new year resolutions. After a few weeks the good intent seems to have evaporated!
