Photos from a random mind

It looks like rain dear.

How do you choose just one photo from such an amazing day.  Today I have followed yesterday's theme of "me & a cute animal".

We had a leisurely morning before meeting up with our group around lunch time.  We were kitted out with helmets as we were off snowmobiling.  I learnt from my experience yesterday and the last time we were on a snowmobile and I put on a few extra layers today.  We were all sharing snowmobiles.  As I can't legally drive, Greig was in charge and I just got to sit back and enjoy the view as we drove through beautiful winter forests.

We stopped at a little skiers cafe for some lunch (tasty reindeer soup!) before heading on to a reindeer farm.  We were met by our Sami guide and take to a pen with reindeer and sleigh.  After a breif safety demonstration (translated by our guide) we were off on a short ride through the forest.  Again, we managed to get the slow animal and we were soon caught up by the other sleighs.  They sped up as we approached home, I'm sure it was nothing to do with the little pile of lichen they were given as a treat.  After another trip around we were shown how to lasso a reindeer and given a chance ourselves (don't worry, our "reindeer" was antlers mounted to a log).  I got a nice open lasso but about 6 foot off to the right, whilst Greig caught his.  We were then allowed to feed the reindeer handfuls of lichen.  They weren't tame enough to stroke but they'd happily eat from your hand.

We were then taken inside to warm up and enjoy some coffee and cake.  The lady serving us told us more about the reindeer and the Sami traditons, culture and way of life.  It was all very interesting.  Before long though we were back on the snowmobiles and heading home.

We were straight in to dinner and then had an hour or two to relax before we headed out snowshoeing for the evening.  We were joined by an Italian couple.  Our guide was friendly and even translated the names of animal tracks in to Italian so the other couple would know what we were seeing.  Once you got used to walking in the snowshoes it was actually quite easy.

We stopped at a little wigwam, set a fire and enjoyed some hot juice whilst we chatted.  In ideal situations we would have been stood outside, staring at the sky in the hope of seeing the aurora.  The sky was thick with cloud so we didn't bother much.  It was a really enjoyable evening but I was certainly in need of my bed by the time we got back.
