John Rylands Library

Here you are Shugs :)

John Ryland was a wealthy, cotton magnate and when he died his third (and much younger) wife, Enriqueta, decided to build a library in his memory as he had been a great lover of books. It opened on 1st January 1900 and was a public library, built amongst the grime and squalor of the centre of the city, so that the poor and downtrodden could benefit from books. It's sometimes called Manchester 's Taj Mahal as it was built for love.
