'Help'

I've had a catastrophe today with my iPad.....its a long story, but to cut to the chase I'm now locked out...and have no trace of my original password. Having tried several variations on a theme, I've had my six goes and am hoping I haven't lost six years of data. Waiting for Friday for my son in law, who is  very clever with I T ...I'm hoping he can help.
