A Fragrant World
As the azaleas begin to wilt from the heavy spring showers, the wisteria blooms in extravagant, tangled abundance. As I photographed this enormous clump that has revived since Katrina swept away everything, the scent of it filled the air and I nearly swooned with pleasure. The bumblebees were affected somewhat differently, flying in crazed and drunken loops among the clusters, but never landing. It seemed the smell was enough. I think I understand.
I enclose a rain-laden cluster of Azalea blossoms. They seemed turned to liquid by the rain. Liquid magenta!
