Foundation Project (Next Door!)
When we arrived at our Paris apartment in January, we found the building next door was under construction, entirely covered by the green plastic you see here. Not much seemed to be happening--we heard only occasional sounds.
Today the cover was lifted for the first time, and all sorts of materials and equipment arrived in the street. I was able to look through the opening, and found that the building had been entirely gutted--it's empty (with hindsight, it probably has been in that state at least since January. I talked briefly with the the man in charge; he told me that his project was to build the foundation (he didn't even know how many floors the eventual building would have). I find these things fascinating (Marylee does not). We return to Massachusetts next Monday--perhaps a good thing, since there's likely now to be construction noise next door.
In the afternoon I visited the Picasso Museum, to see the second incarnation of the large exhibition of Picasso's Sculptures. It was very interesting to experience it--less sprawling, in smaller galleries, and even with some different works. The familiar large "Head of a Woman" in the extra photo was wonderfully displayed by itself in the open area at the bottom of the ceremonial stairs leading to the second floor. Edit: I've added a broad view from the stair's midway landing.
