Mono March Challenge - final day

Today was the final day of my mono challenge.  So .... what have I learnt after a month of only taking mono shots?

Converting an average colour photo into black and white just gives you an average black and white image ..... who knew?.... black and white is not a "cure all" for lazy photography after all :-)

Similarly, black and white just does not work when the image depends on colour ... and I don't just mean the obvious sunset & sunrise shots ... purple crocus's in a green field do not show up at all in a mono shot .... colours don't always have the mono tone you expect! ... green and red/purple are the same tone in mono.

BUT .... you can get some great mono shots under the right circumstances.... if the subject suits underexposure (my personal favourite...) or has a strong graphical element (my most popular shot ...) or has a limited number of tones (like this ...).

Now that's all finished ..... bring on the colour!
