Zoo Trip #54: Slimbridge WWT (Wed 30th March 2016)

To celebrate the sunshine I went out for the day. In the morning I visited the Wild Place Project near Bristol, and then went on to Slimbridge. I stopped in the village for a short walk along the canal, then on for an al fresco lunch at Slimbridge WWT, overlooking the Caribbean flamingos seen behind this Nene goose, and a walk around the grounds. I stopped off for a coffee in Malmesbury on the drive home.

I took hundreds of photos and am now working through them, so will add a link to the  photo album of the day when I have it ready.

Lozarhythm Of The Day:
Tommy Vann and the Echoes - Pretty Flamingo (1966)
Assuming everyone knows the original by Manfred Mann I thought it might be interesting to hear this American version released a couple of months later. The song was written by a New York songwriter named Mark Barkan and this arrangement is reminiscent of New York productions of two or three years earlier, probably because the original demo of the song was recorded by session vocalist Jimmy Radcliffe in a style intended for the Drifters. Tommy Vann may have never heard the Manfreds' version when he recorded it. The first released version of the song was by Gene Pitney.
