Bell Hanging

Steve, the bell hanger, arrived at the beginning of the week to start preparing the tower for the installation of the bells. Yesterday four of us volunteered to give him a hand. This involved taking up all the floorboards and joists and getting them down to ground level. That just left us with the four huge beams that you see in this photo. We got one out yesterday and the remaining three are today's task.

The floor has to be dropped three feet to accommodate the new frame and bells. The frame will go in next week with the bells going in the following week. They will have to be left for about another 6 months before they can be rung while the cement being used to restore the stonework on the tower cures. You can see some of the stone work which has been replaced. The stone masons are working just above us at the moment.

Looking forward to Monday when the bells will actually arrive.
