North cardinal buoy in the Beauly Firth, outside Inverness Harbour, cuts a wake in the outgoing flow of the tide. The buoy was installed last year. Presumably to cut the number of folk running aground when they cut the corner coming out of the harbour area, on their way to the sea-lock of the Caledonian Canal. The extra was taken just before this, of the partially mist shrouded Kessock Bridge.
Very frosty start to the day. Unfortunately a local cyclist was caught out by the iffy bit at the bottom of the hill by Drumsmittal. There's been water collecting just before the junction (near the A9) for a while. Great care has been required over the frosty Winter days, especially as vehicles can suddenly appear around the bend from the underpass. Don't know exactly what happened, but the poor gent was being carefully assisted on to a stretcher by two paramedics when I arrived. Didn't recognise him, but hope his injuries are only slight. On the previous very frosty morning a few days back, I'd an unwanted thrill when my brake cable froze up leaving the brake dragging as I was heading for the same patch... not a good idea to have the brakes "on" when you hit ice. Some heavier braking ensure I stopped before the hazard.
Other sad news today, was the death of Ronnie Corbett. Only ever saw the wee fella on television, but when I lived in East Lothian during the early 1980's, he had a house next door to some family friends in Gullane. Probably largely for all the great golf courses in that area. He was supposedly a regular sight in the town, usually sporting an extra large golfing bunnet. Such a great fun character, both on and off the screen.
