Another Languedoc year...

Happy birthday....

... to Jonty. He is six today and I know there's nothing he likes more than to be taken on a walk without the other dogs. We had heavy rain and thick fog this morning so I put on as many waterproofs as I could find and loaded up my rucksack with map, guide book, torch (anticipating a dark tunnel), mobile phone, water, dog treats, apple and my specs. I thought I'd take him on a wonderful walk along the River Orb then back along a disused railway track, taking in the odd ancient chapel.

All went well for an hour and then, despite repeated referrals to the guide book and map I was puzzled that I couldn't find the right track. When we hit the main road I realised that the new D908 bypass has been built since my guide book and map and that the authorities have appropriated the old railway track as the route for the new sweeping road that both Ali and I love. So there was nothing for it but to walk back the way we came. I don't think Jonty minded one bit. As you can see from the photo it was so misty that he probably couldn't tell that he'd walked the path in both directions.
