Pond visitor and a celebration!

The chaffinch landed on the pond, darted off, had another look (see extra photo) and then decided it was, after all, safe to have a drink.
We have many chaffinches in the garden, but this one was some way from the bird food. The birds are so full of song, and so numerous, so we are hoping that there will be even more nests in the garden this spring!

At the village Cafe we celebrated a long-standing villager's 90th birthday. He  drove himself to the village hall, and made a very nice speech after we all sang "For he's a jolly good fellow!"  He has been a stalwart of the village, giving up so much time to its organisations and community generally. We all enjoyed plenty of cake with our coffee today to mark the occasion!
