Another day in paradise.......
I have often said, we live in a postcard. It's true. At anytime we can pretty much get any kind of climate or terrain we want with a few hours drive. Spring is here with beautiful skies and daffodils and that warm sun.........yeah,
Not today
No today it was a gray rainy day. It was about 43 degrees....a cold 43 degrees.
I of course opted to go to the ocean and immerse myself in this weather...... This is at Pine Point in Scarborough, Maine. This is a great town.
Donal and I took the day and headed to the coast. It was fun.
My favorite part?
Pier fries
Omg people these are a joy to behold! Pure deliciousness in a few bites. The first cup of the season are the best. Picture this, a cold wind, the ocean, seagulls crying and the smell of salt and vinegar....on your French fries.
Those of us that grew up here know the traditions of going to Old Orchard Beach and getting these fries. They rock.
They also make poutine. Omg talk about Gods gift to man.........get this.......
French fries, cheese curds, heated up......with gravy. This does not suck people. The melange of flavors will make you close your eyes, and hum.
Unless you are a vegetarian, then not so much.
We started the day going to the restaurant where Dad, Don and I used to go for breakfast on the weekend. The waitresses didnt know of his passing.
I cried.
I told them that they don't know how they affect people. That even if their day sucked, and it was exhausting, it still was a good day for someone they waited on. We have two breakfast places. Stones and Bernie's. We went to Stones the first week. We have been going there for almost 10 years. These people feel like family. It is comforting. It's like a warm blanket.
Then there is Bernie's Forside. This is Don's and Dad's place. It's about 2 miles away.
My father loved these waitresses. They knew his order and if Missy (The cook) saw him come in she would start his order. He knew all about their good news and worried about their bad news. On his last Sunday, I brought breakfast to him from Bernie's and he ate almost all of it. It was one of his last meals. His favorite breakfast. (English muffin, 2 eggs over easy with salt free home fries. Oh and hollandaise sauce on the side).
They joked with him and flirted and made him smile. They helped him escape the reality of getting older. These wonderful women have no idea of how much he loved going there for breakfast. It made his week.
So we went and broke the news to them. They did not know. It was sad. I cried and then drank coffee comforted with the fact that I could go there and feel his presence with me. We will go back next week. Usually Saturday at Bernie's and Stones on Sunday. It's important not to loose touch with family.
Oh and Andrea ( at Bernie's) is expecting. Dad wonders what she would have. She felt awful and was sad. Donal told her that Dad's dying wish was that she would name the baby for him........he was joking. Just what we needed to laugh.
Actually her name will be Jordan Elizabeth. He would have loved that.
As the sun sets downunder. I say Goodmorning to the north.
