Fit for an Empress

Step forward all you ladies who would like to have this palace and its Royal Salon entrance built especially for your one day visit to Cairo! That's what happened to and for Empress Eugenie, wife of Napolean III, who was the guest of honour at the inauguration of the Suez Canal on 17th November 1869. The palace was built to house all the guests invited to attend with the suite of rooms on the first floor created as an exact replica of Eugenie's apartments in Les Tuileries to make her feel at home. Now this entranceway is used for bridal arrivals in the present day Marriott Hotel.

I scouted it out after breakfast before doing some work on the terrace and packing for my trip home to Barcelona.
