White birds nest/Nidula candida

Another good find by Pat in a different bit of bush. I hadn't seen these before. I had only seen the brown birdsnests. As big as a thumb tack they were on a piece of wood in the dark so I carried it into the light to take the the photo.
They have a specialised method of spore dispersal. When they open up a rain drop splashing in the cup will toss the eggs out. A small cord will fasten it to whatever it lands on. The eggs are a mass of spores never a single one.

I just hope I can find them again to watch progress and see the cups when they are open.
