In the gallery again.

Today I was in Kelvingrove, first of all meeting a friend for coffee and despite my good intentions I ate half of a very nice lemon tart. Just to be sociable, you understand! I then took two lovely and interested South African ladies on a tour. Because it's the school holidays the gallery was packed with children and very noisy.
On Saturday the west court was partially reopened with a new arrangement of exhibits organised in eco systems. Sir Roger the Asian elephant has long been a favourite and he has had a dust and clean before being moved to a new position. As the animals are now closely enclosed by glass it's a wonderful opportunity for small noses and sticky fingers to imprint themselves in a most attractive way!
During the late 1880’s,Sir Roger toured the country as part of a travelling menagerie, before joining a newly opened zoo in Glasgow. It is reported that he lived happily at the zoo until October 1900. By then, Sir Roger was around 27 years old and had developed a painful condition which led to unpredictable aggression and he became very dangerous to handle. He began to attack zoo staff and eventually wouldn’t allow anyone near him. Reluctantly the zoo decided to put him down humanely on 6 December 1900.
Sir Roger was later presented to Kelvingrove by the zoo and he has been on proud display ever since, much to the delight of millions of visitors over the years!
The main image is a bit of fun but you can see the bigger picture in the extra.
