Mola mola

What a morning! We had booked to go whale watching from Monterey today.

We saw several humpbacked whales as well as two blue whales and two schools of dolphins. For the last hour or so we went further out from the coast and were rewarded by the sight of an elephant seal and also this mola mola or sunfish.

I was delighted as we have a poster of the Outer Bay exhibit at Monterey Bay Aquarium in our house from our 2001 visit. The only species on it that we hadn't seen at the aquarium was the mola mola, and we saw one in the ocean itself!! It is there, in the middle, honest!!

I seemed to be the only one who was seasick - I really ought to take something before getting on a boat!
