Chania Old Town

We stayed one night in the very lovely old town, near to the harbour from which the white mountains could be seen as if at the end of the street and still with a little snow on the tops. Some bits of the town are touristy, but the tourist season has yet to start, and other bits seem less touched. A beautiful and fascinating mixture of old and new, with a maze of narrow winding streets.

We then caught the bus to Soughia which is on the south coast. Less than 70kms but it took the new Mercedes bus 2 hours, on a very narrow road with an interminable number of bends. Apart from us and a Valencian, all the other travellers on the full bus were locals, returning to remote road-side spots with bags of shopping.
