Следующая станция: Площадь Ленина

Next stop: Ploshchad Lenina (Lenin Square)

Day 5 of our trip to Russia.

Those who follow my journal regularly know of my fondness for underground architecture; and while the architecture of the stations of the Saint Petersburg Metro (Петербургский метрополитен) is unquestionably marvellous, it is rather hard to take a pleasing photo of them ('pleasing' meaning perfectly symmetric and without any people). The stations are always crowded and you have to watch out to not get run down by your fellow metro riders.

The pictured station is Ploshchad Lenina (Площадь Ленина), which means Lenin Square. It is part of the second metro line, was opened in 1958, and is in a depth of 67 metres (which is not really much for the Saint Petersburg's metro stations).
