PHEASANT COUGAL aka Swamp pheasant
I saw this shy bird today on my easy walk near the creek. He stuck around for only a 1/2 minute while I fumbled for my camera then took off. He/she's a native bird that makes a 'woop-woop' call. He lives in wooded areas and around creeks. He has a beautiful long tawny tail, part of which you can see. Sadly, he has a habit of becoming road kill when he scurries across a road from an area of dense low growth. Aerodynamically speaking he/she should go back to the drawing board: he's a clumsy flyer, possibly because of the tail. He's member of the cuckoo family, but more responsible. He builds a nest!
