Saturday Delights
It's been a very good day, and a very long one!
* Breakfast at Crema, a few blocks away.
* A bus and streetcar journey to The Oregon Rail Heritage Center, arriving before opening time, but thanks to Phil's powers of persuasion, welcomed in nonetheless.
* While there, we enjoyed seeing an excellent video, three enormous steam locomotives, and volunteers at work on one of them, clearly enjoying themselves! (You can see me next to one of those behemouths on Phil's blip, blipfoto.com/pilipo.) Phil also had fun riding in the cab of a small diesel electric locomotive that pulled a variety of railcars and a caboose, filled with families taking their youngsters on a 45-minute outing along the river.
* We took another bus to Bazi Bierbrasserie, one of our most favorite places in Portland, arriving 15 minutes before it opened and again being invited to come in early. The food was good as the beer (and wine, for me) and for most of the time we were there, the ambient music was from the 1960s... and I couldn't resist singing along to rather a lot of it, sotto voce. The Hollies! The Beatles! The Mamas and the Papas! (I was in a folk/rock band in college...)
*We walked back to our neighborhood and stopped in at Staccato Gelato, seen in today's blip, and then went to the nearby Whole Foods for coffee and some fruit.
*Everywhere we went, we had pleasant chats with Portland folks of all ages.
* And -- I did 13,077 steps today! That's 5.37 miles, not a lot by many blippers' standards, but more than I've done in a while.
