Alighting in Hokitika
A sunny clear Autumn day as we drove south along the dramatic west coast from Westport via Greymouth to Hokitika where we indulged in a whitebait fritter with salad for Sunday lunch. The town has a treacherous harbour bar and a history of shipwrecks besides being the setting for Eleanor Catton's 2013 Man Booker prize-winning novel , The Luminaries.
