The Edge of the Wold

Morning sunshine

It's been over a month again since Gus was blipped.  Some people will be concerned.  Here he is this morning when we went for a short walk from the National Trust carpark on Arnside Knott.  There was quite a ground frost after the overnight cloud cleared.

There is a clue in that first paragraph.  We wouldn't normally be taking the car out for our morning walk on the Knott.  On the same day as the Old Flyer died nearly three weeks ago, Gus injured himself when we took some time out for ourselves and took him for a walk at lunchtime.  He was limping very badly.

The following day we visited Abdul the vet.  It was a bit traumatic for all of us after losing the Old Flyer the previous evening.  There was talk of torn ligaments and chipped bones.  Gus was given a strong pain killer - almost too strong - we thought we were going to lose him too.

He came through with a lot of help from Wifie, and since then he has been getting stronger (with the occasional setback) each day.  It seems the injury was more of a shoulder sprain than anything more damaging.  The bad news for him and me is that he is on a light exercise regime.  Yesterday was the first time we have been to the top of the Knott in three weeks, and that was a bit too much for him.  Hopefully he will be back to full fitness by the end of this week.

Tuesday is the Old Flyer's funeral.  We shall be travelling down and back the same day, Gus's friend Alison is coming to look after him - so he shall be happy.  I doubt I shall be blipping much in the next week.  I am so grateful for all the supportive and thoughtful comments left on the heron blip from last Sunday.  After Tuesday we can begin to have some closure, this last few weeks have been very unsettling, and my concentration at work and at home has not been the best.
